This presentation will examine the essential role of geochemistry in various aspects of nuclear waste management in the USA and abroad. Emphasis will include the role of geochemical considerations in repository design and modeling of nuclear waste repositories, including the importance of matching waste forms to geochemical environments for optimal performance. Recent research in the Energy Frontier Research Center Materials Science of Actinides of importance to nuclear waste storage and disposal will be examined.
