One of the most important applications of ion mobility base mass spectrometry is the ability to obtain absolute cross sections of biomolecules and molecular assemblies.  For the most part how ions are handled before entering the IMS cell is not given careful thought.  Here we will demonstrate the importance of this factor in determing solution based structures and assemblies using IMS-MS.
