This presentation will showcase a number of programs and activities that are part of RCSA's efforts to support the teacher-scholar model at colleges and universities across the country. Our funding philosophy is aimed at identifying cutting-edge science conducted by outstanding young scientists and at building sustainable networks that promote team-work and community building. This approach has shown to be instrumental at tailoring research and education to better engage diverse communities of faculty and students. Assessment results of our current programs, involving primarily undergraduate institutions and research universities, and new national activities conducted by members of our Cottrell Scholar program will be presented. In addition, on-going work to help establish characteristics of excellence in undergraduate research programs, done in collaboration with the Council on Undergraduate Research, will also be described.
