I have two points of contact with the international community and will review them both. Through my books I have an extensive correspondence with users, faculty, students, and translators, throughout the world. These contacts have arisen both by active approach to reviewers for comments and their spontaneously generated correspondence. Through my involvement with IUPAC, and particularly as chair of the Committee for Chemical Education, which developed special relation with chemists in emerging economies, I had an unparalleled viewpoint of chemical education worldwide. I shall reflect on both aspects of this experience and how it can be employed
