Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions have been implemented into the organic chemistry curriculum at the California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) with the goal of improving student performance and increasing the pass rate. SI sessions are problem-solving sessions led by a peer who has previously taken and excelled in organic chemistry. As CSUB is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), approximately one-third of the students who take organic chemistry are Hispanic.  Preliminary results from the first quarter of implementation indicate that student grades improve based on the number of SI sessions attended. Results from the first full year of implementation will be presented, including performance on the ACS standardized organic chemistry exam and data for Hispanic versus non-Hispanic students.
