High-performance n-type organic semiconductor devices require operational air-stability and well-defined p-p stacked lamellar packing motifs of the corresponding materials, and an interfacial structure thatfavors charge transfer between the organic semiconductor materials and connecting electrodes. Rationally designing materials that simultaneously satisfy all three of these requirements is crucial for the development of the nextgeneration of organic semiconducting devices. In this presentation, from thebasis of fundamental physical organic chemistry in solid state crystal structures,solution-phase studies of intermolecular interactions in a series ofperfluoroalkylated aromatics, supported with computational work onintermolecular interactions of these perfluoroalkylated aromatic molecules, wewill discuss the potential of applying perfluoroalkylated supramolecularsynthons for the rational design of next generation high-performance n-typeorganic semiconductor materials.
