ROMP-derived oligomeric soluble/silica/magnetic phosphorus and sulfur based reagents for application in purification-free diversification protocols is reported. Hybrid Si-ROMP benzylic and heterocyclic phosphates (Si-OBP & Si-OHP), and their corresponding oligomeric triazole phosphate (Si-OTP) derivatives were successfully synthesized as free flowing solids for efficient benzylation and triazolation. Building on the successful development of these ROMP-derived soluble and silica reagents/scavengers, we have further advanced them to supported magnetic Co/C nanoparticles utilizing surface-initiated ROM polymerization. The magnetic Co/C ROMP-derived benzene sulfonate ester (OBSE) has been synthesized as a methylating reagent for carboxylic acids, phenols and thiols. Moreover magnetic phosphonyl dichloride (Co/C-OPCn) has been synthesized as a new scavenging agent. Further developments of new hybrid magnetic reagents are in progress for their utility in synthetic transformations, facilitated synthesis of small molecules, applications in parallel synthesis and potentially automated technologies.
