Synthesis of N-heterocyclic compounds by transition metal-catalyzed tandem reaction sequences have become an attractive alternative for conventional N-heterocycle synthetic methods. Here we report the development of a redox-neutral catalytic process for atom-efficient synthesis of oxindole derivatives by late transition metal-mediated tandem C-H bond activation and N-heterocyclization. Details of screening processes for transition metal catalyst precursors, ancillary ligands and additives, and solvent conditions are described. Reaction mechanism of this catalytic method will be discussed.
