This talk will focus on our efforts into the trapping of the problematic anion perchlorate. We focus on positively charged inorganic and metal-organic materials for environmental applications based on their extra-framework anions. The cationic charge of our hosts allows for anion exchange, which is not possible for anionic clays and zeolites. We can selectively uptake a variety of anionic pollutants that occur as their oxo-anion in water . Perchlorate will be the focus of this talk. The capacity outperforms existing anion exchange resins and layered double hydroxides by several fold. Recent advances and strategies into the reversibility and selectivity will be discussed.
