This presentation will describes our recent development of transition metal-catalyzed reactions for hetero- and carbocycle synthesis that feature metalated imine and enamine as key reactive species. Under aerobic conditions, palladium(II) catalysis allows dehydrogenative cyclization of N-aryl imines to indole derivatives, presumably through a-palladation of imine as the first key step. Capitalizing on imine a-palladation, dehydrogenative synthesis of arylamine and pyrrole derivatives have also been achieved. More recent study on palladium catalysis of imines as well as copper catalysis of oximes will also be discussed.
