The quality of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is important for extending their applications. We apply fluorescence methods to characterize the dynamic mechanisms and properties of MOFs . Since some MOFs produce luminescence and the lifetime of the luminescence is strongly dependent on the environment of the MOF; therefore changes in the organic linker, the metals or the solvent will cause changes to the framework which are reflected in the luminescence lifetime, spectrum and distribution within the MOF crystals.  So far we have initiated luminescence characterization of portoporphyrin frameworks with different metal centers in the porphyrin and in various solvents.
