Neutral oligonuclear CuI-complexes exhibit fascinating luminescence properties which makes them highly interesting for applications in molecular light-emitting devices (MOLEDs).[1],[2]We herein report the synthesis, structural characterization, and photophysical properties of the first neutral linearly arranged tetranuclear CuI-complex, based on a new bisamidinate ligand system.[3] The X-ray crystal structure determination reveals an overall helically twisted array and close d10�d10contacts not only between the peripheral amidinate-bridged cuprous centers (2.4640(13) ?), but also a short internal Cu2�Cu2' distance (2.6796(17) ?). All intramolecular Cu�Cu separations are clearly below the sum of two van der Waals radii of 2.8 ?.[4]Theoretical calculations and the extensive luminescence properties of this unique complex, both in solid state and solution, together with its electrochemical behavior, are also discussed.[1] James, A.
