A family of polynuclear transition-metal complexes of a cryptand derived from tris(5-amino-2-ethoxy-3-isopropylphenyl)methane and pyridine dicarbonyl dichloride are presented. In all cases, the metal centers decorate the equatorial plane of the internal cavity of the ligand, and each cation is held within the meridional three N-atom chelate of a pyridine dicarboxamide unit. Interestingly, changing the base employed in the metalation reactions leads to the selective synthesis of the dinuclear complexes in which a hydrogen bonding network extends from both metal cations to the unmetalated pyridine dicarboxamide.
