In present study, hydrophobic magnetic microspheres were facilely prepared by anchoring dodecyl (-C12) onto the external surface of Fe3O4/SiO2. The resultant material was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scan electron microscopy (SEM), thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM).These results demonstrated that the dodecyl group has been immobilized onto the surface of Fe3O4/SiO2, and the prepared materials were uniform submicrospheres and exhibit superparamagnetic character (38 emu/g). To validate the extraction performance of the synthesized sorbent, Fe3O4/SiO2/C12 was used as an adsorption material to extract three kinds of phthalate esters (PAEs) from water samples. Under optimal conditions, the extraction time was shortened down to 4 min. The enrichment factor was in the range of 42-134 and the detection limit was in the range of 0.025-0.107 ng/mL, and good reproducibility was also obtained. These results have shown that the proposedmethod is simple, effective and convenient, and provides a rapid and highly efficient detection platform for the analysis of PAEs in the pollutant water sample.
