The presented studies involve the intramolecular cyclizations of allyl- and vinyldihydropyridones under photolytic conditions. These substrates rapidly and efficiently generate [2+2] photocycloaddition products, which host structurally interesting and challenging tricyclic ring systems. These molecules show structural similarities to extremely useful tropane framework and will be further evaluated in the study of biology, medicine, agriculture and molecular imaging.
