The reactive oxygen species (ROS), which is mainly corresponded to hydroxyl (�OH) and superoxide (O2�-) radicals generated on the TiO2 surface by the photocatalysis, has been widely used in the advanced oxidation process (AOP), water splitting and disinfection, and so on. The colorimetric probes with UV-vis-spectroscopy have been considered as one of the useful detection method because they are readily available, and provide it simple to monitor ROS on TiO2 surface. However, the use of colorimetric probes to detect ROS generated on TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) in suspension has been limited due to significant interference of NPS in the absorbance measurement, and time-consuming and expensive to selectively separate NPS in suspension. Here, we report the facile colorimetric probe-assisted spectrometric ROS detection method without any interference by the TiO2 NPs. In order to exclude the interference effect on the TiO2 NPs in suspension, the p-nitrosodimethylaniline (RNO) and tetrazolium salt (XTT) (as probe compounds for �OH and O2�-, respectively) was selectively separated from the TiO2 NPs in the suspension using by centrifugation at a specified ionic strength adjusted with phosphate buffer (KH2PO4/NaOH, PB) solution. The photogenerated ROS in a TiO2 NPs suspension was successfully measured by this colorimetric probe-assisted spectrometric method.
