Pest management strategies ideally consider domestic and foreign pesticide use authorizations and MRLs. When a foreign MRL is lower than the domestic one the use pattern has to be adjusted to avoid too high residue levels on export crops. This adjustment requires large amounts of information, such as crop trade statistics, domestic and foreign MRLs, application methods, concentrations, use rates, application timing, pre-harvest intervals, re-entry intervals, etc., and the approval/expiry dates for the specific uses. This information can only be processed in a timely fashion if it is found in one location, one language and oneformat, and is updated regularly. Our presentation demonstrates how the Global Crop Protection Database / HOMOLOGA is used to overcome MRL-based trade-barriers for the carbendazim replacement on citrus in Brazil and the control of Drosophila suzukii in Canada.
