Bakuchiol is a monoterpinoid compound found only in the seeds of Psoralea coryfolia Linn., naturally indigenous to Southeast Asia. The isolation of this compound has reported multiple health benefits, one of them being its antitumor properties. This research proposes to use a bulky chiral Br�nsted acid to produce an enantioenriched ?-lactone from an achiral hydroxydiester, in which it would be the all-carbon quaternary center building block for the backuchiol; and this will be further manipulated for the fulfillment of the total synthesis.
