For the past 40 years, the American Chemical Society has been sending chemists to Washington DC for an immersive experience in how the government works. The purpose of the ACS Public Policy Fellowship program is two-fold: to give chemists a better understanding of how government policy affects the chemical enterprise and to inject some scientific knowledge and critical thinking into the policy-making process. Congressional Fellows serve in the office of a Congressional committee or personal office and Science Policy Fellows serve at the American Chemical Society's Washington, DC office. In this symposium, several former Fellows will share their experiences as chemists working in policy in our nation's capital and describe how the Fellowship affected their career trajectory.
