Research on stimuli-responsive polymers has been a vibrant research area over the years and it was dramatically promoted through the advent of controlled polymerization methods. Additionally, new and efficient post-polymerization modification protocols, based on click chemistries, boosted the diverse synthesis of novel stimuli-responsive polymers. In the present study, new monomers and their respective polymers are explored for the synthesis of stimuli-responsive polymers. Stimuli of interest include temperature, light and redox chemistries. Two developments will be presented. First, defined polymer syntheses utilizing reactive monomers on the basis of vinylcyclopropanes, namely 1-cyano-1-pentafluorophenoxycarbonyl-2-vinylcyclopropane, will be discussed. Post-polymerization modification with various amines leads to stimuli-responsive polymers featuring a UCST in ethanol-water mixtures. Second, photo-protected temperature-responsive polymers, which allow a precise variation of the LCST in water by light irradiation, will be discussed.
