Polymerization of 2-oxazolines has history of half a century, the reaction mode of which is known as cationic ring-opening polymerization (CROP: reaction 1).1 Two decades ago, we found that 2-oxazoline compounds acted as useful monomers in enzymatic polymerizations (EROPA: reaction 2).2 In this presentation we will mention the developments of these polymerizations, which mainly our group explored for these four decades. These two are quite different in reaction mode to produce a variety of functional polymers having completely different structures; poly(N-acylethylenimine)s via CROP and 2-amino-2-deoxy sugar unit-containing polysaccharides via EROPA, respectively.1 Makino, A.; Kobayashi, S.
