Verdazyl radicals are relatively stable and can be isolated under ambient conditions. The verdazyl nitrogen can coordinate metal ions and a variety of metal complexes have been reported. Dipyridyl substituted verdazyls,  with an additional pyridine ring, allow for better coordination of the metal ions due to low steric hindrance. We have synthesized similar complexes to the Nickel (II) complex reported by Richardson in 2010 with M2+ metals from Mn2+ to Zn2+.  Spectroelectrochemical and electrochemical studies of the complexes were studied using cyclic voltanmetry. The information suggests that both ligand and metal centered redox processes along with examples of valence tautomerization are present in these complexes.
