Nanostructured zinc aluminate with controllable morphologies were prepared and used as supports of cobalt catalysts for Fischer�Tropsch synthesis.Figure 1. TEM images of ZnAl2O4 spinelsThe synthesized zinc aluminates and corresponding cobalt catalysts, which were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation method, were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR), temperature programmed reduction (TPR), N2 adsorption�desorption, hydrogen chemisorption and oxygen titration. The morphology of the nanostructured zinc aluminate significantly influenced the catalytic performance.Table 1. Catalytic performance of the catalysts in FTSAmong the nanostructured ZnAl2O4 supported catalysts, Co-NS catalyst showed highest cobalt dispersion, comparable cobalt reducibility and thus highest FTS activity, which could be attributed to the high surface area, large pore volume and suitable pore size in the NS support. Meanwhile, the abundant irregular mesopores inside the schistose structure of NS could inhibit the sintering of inner channel metallic cobalt species, hence, better reaction stability in Co-NS was also acheived.
