MALDI MS was conducted on the Group VA polyesters of chelidonic acid and thiodiglycolic acid.  The products derived from chelidonic acid, CA, and thiodiglycolic acid, TDGA, are both polymeric and show good activity against a wide variety of cancer cell lines. MALDI MS results are consistent with the proposed repeat units for both groups of products. In each case, ion fragments and ion fragment clusters are found that correspond to one to two units in length and consistent with the proposed repeat unit. As in other studies with metal-containing condensation polymers, ion fragments are formed from bond scission along the polymer backbone at the metal sites.  Further, loss of groups attached to the metal, here phenyl groups, often occur at the sites of bond breakage.  The mildness of MALDI MS is evident from the lack of breakup of the chelidonic acid and thiodiglycolid acid derived moieties other than loss of oxygen, CO, or CO2 which is typical for acids.
