Organotin polyesters were synthesized from the interfacial polycondensation of organotin dihalides and D-camphoric acid. Camphoric acid is obtained from camphor so is part of the green chemistry emphasis. Reaction is rapid, occurring in less than 5 seconds, in poor yield for the dioctyltin product with the other yields moderate to high.  The products are polymeric.  The products are all tacky.  Tackiness follows the trend Oc>Bu>Et>Ph>Me so increases as the size of the alkyl group increases.  On drying, the butyl and octyl form transparent glasses. Infrared bands associated with formation of the tin-oxygen linkage are present. In general, infrared bands of about the same intensities are found for both the bridging and non-bridging associated structures consistent with the polymer having a combination of bridging and non-bridging geometrical arrangements about the tin atom.
