Conjugated polymer ?brous membranes were prepared as fluorescent sensing materials through electrospinning followed by post treatment. Two types of receptor-free poly(phenylenevinylene)s (PPVs) with/without long side groups were selected as representative conjugated polymers due to their facile synthesis and well-studied photophysics. Three types of general polymers, PMMA, Polyimide (PI) and PVA were used as the polymer matrices. These membranes displayed higher sensitivity toward most analytes compared to the corresponding spin-coated ?lms. PPV/PMMA membranes were more sensitive than PPV/PI membranes toward Cu2+ and Fe3+. PPV/PVA membrane was found to be very sensitive to some specific solvents while negligible response toward some others. All these membranes displayed fast response. They can be simply regenerated and reused for many times. The preliminary investigation into the mechanism will also be discussed.
