A series of cyclometallated Ru(IV) hydride silyl complexes Cp*Ru(IXy-H)(H)(SiH2R) (R = Mes (1  ), Trip (2  )) has been prepared by the reactions of Cp*Ru(IXy-H)(N2) complex with RSiH3. Complexes 1  and 2  equilibrate in solution to Cp*(IXy)(H)(Ru=SiHR) (R = Mes (1a  ) and Trip (2a  )) and exhibit silylene-like reactivity towards a variety of substrates. In particular, 1a  and 2a  are unusually electron-rich and as a result form Cu(I) (3  )and Ag(I) (4  ) silylene adducts. The isolation of metallo-oxasilacyclopropane complexes 5  and 6  further evidences the transformation of 1a  and 2a  to the metallosilylenes 1b  and 2b    .
