We designed a series of Sporcle quizzes that correlated with the content covered in a year-long organic chemistry course for a varied body of learners. The logic being that the more student resources available, the more opportunity there is for student learning and having a learning tool that has a puzzling aspect adds to student engagement and enjoyment. Sporcle is an online knowledge-based quiz website that allows for the creation of publically-accessible content. The quiz designs ranged from practicing the memorization of important organic concepts to the application of these concepts. Herein we describe the results of this pilot study of quiz usefulness in terms of both content and style of quiz.
