Pyridines and N‑heterocyclic thiones (NHTs) are among the most common nitrogen- and sulfur-containing donor ligands. However, the coordination chemistry of simple bidentate neutral ligands based on such functional groups remains underdeveloped. We have previously synthesized (mercaptoimidazolyl)pyridine (mpyR) (R = Me, Bun) and (mercaptoimidazolyl)picoline (mpicMe) complexes of a variety of main group and transition metals, including derivatives of copper(I), silver(I), zinc(II), cadmium(II), mercury(II), indium(III), tin(IV), antimony(III), and bismuth(III). We describe herein the synthesis and reactivity of the first examples of molybdenum(0), manganese(I) and rhenium(I) complexes supported by these mixed-donor ligands. More specifically, this presentation will outline the preparation, complete characterization, and reactivity studies towards CO2 reduction for complexes such as LMo(CO)4 and LM(CO)3X (M = Mn, Re; X = Cl, Br), where L is one of the aforementioned ligands.
