Over the last decade, trends in higher education have led to a significant increase in the number of online courses.  While online courses have become common at many community colleges, and major universities have explored teaching through massive open online courses, online or blended programming is becoming common even among smaller institutions with a focus on liberal arts and sciences.  The nature of courses in chemistry, with heavy emphasis on problem solving and hands-on laboratory skills, creates some challenges for teaching online that are distinct from courses that emphasize reading and discussion.  In this talk, I will present my results of developing and teaching a blended General Chemistry II course in a largely asynchronous format.  I will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of various online tools for interacting with and teaching students including online homework, learning management systems, synchronous video-linked office hours, and flipped-classroom mini lectures, as well as challenges in producing high quality material in an online format.  I will also report student perceptions and learning outcomes, as reflected in course evaluations and content assessments, and compare them to perceptions and learning outcomes of the same course in a traditional format.<br/>
