The reaction of a Schiff base ligand (H3L) with Ln(NO3)3 (Ln = Dy, Tb, Gd) and M(OAc)2 (M = Co or Ni) results in the formation of a family of novel dinuclear 3d-4f complexes, [NiLn(LH)(μ-OAc)(NO3)2(HOR)] (solvent)x (Ln = Dy (1), Gd (2), Tb (3), R = CH3 (1, 2) and R = CH2CH3 (3)), [CoDy(LH)((μ-OAc)(OAc)2(H2O)3](NO3)(solvent)x (4), and [CoDy(LH)( μ-OAc)2(NO3)2](solvent)x (5) in the presence of triethylamine (TEA). In addition to the heterobimetallic complexes, a hexanuclear Dy complex [Dy6(L)2(LH)2(μ3-O)4(DMF)4] (solvent)x (6) a dinuclear Eu complex, [Eu2(LH)2(NO3)2] (solvent)x (7), and a tetranuclear Ni complex, [Ni4(L)2(μ3-OCH3)2(HOCH3)2] (solvent)x (8), were isolated in the course of this investigation. The X-ray crystal structures and the spectroscopic data of these complexes will be reported.
