Research in our laboratories has demonstrated that simple polyamine structures can serve as the core scaffolds for the production of quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs), which are a versatile set of structures routinely employed for the inhibition of bacterial growth. Our investigations have now shown that dye structures that bear multiple tertiary amines are competent cores for the construction of multicationic QACs (multiQACs). Our synthetic endeavors as well as our antimicrobial activity investigations are presented.
