A laboratory module was developed for undergraduate Analytical Chemistry at St. Mary's University during which students analyze a real-world sample using a method reported in the literature.  Students develop a written procedure based on a provided journal article, implement the experiment, and present the results of the experiment in written form.  Student attitudes about laboratory experimentation were assessed before and after completion of the experiment using an attitude survey.  Results of the survey over 4 semesters indicate improvement in understanding of the lab project, perception of reading and writing skills, value of collaboration, value of learning, and perseverance.  Successful completion of the experiment was a large factor in positive attitudinal change, signifying that experiment selection is an important factor in module design.
