The Women Chemists Committee (WCC) serves the membership of the American Chemical Society. Our mission is to be leaders in attracting, developing, promoting, and advocating for women in the chemical sciences in order to positively impact society and the profession. There are four goals designed to fulfill the mission statement. Goal 1: Increase participation and retention of women in the chemical sciences and related disciplines. Goal 2: Take an advocacy position within the ACS on issues of importance to women in the chemical sciences. Goal 3: Provide leadership for career development opportunities for women in the chemical sciences and related disciplines. Goal 4: Promote and recognize the professional accomplishments of women in the chemical sciences and related disciplines. Women are still underrepresented among chemists worldwide. Details on recent WCC efforts to recruit, retain, promote and support women chemists will be shared. Programs described will include, but not be limited to: The WCC Rising Stars Award (recognizing highly accomplished mid-career women chemists), the recent ACS Symposium eBook, “Jobs, Collaborations, and Women Leaders in the Global Chemistry Enterprise,” edited by Marinda Li Wu, H.N. Cheng, and Bradley D. Miller, which was an extension of the WCC and PRES co-sponsored “Women Leaders of the Global Chemistry Enterprise” symposium, collaboration with the CIEC on the “Women in Innovation” symposium series, the recently released book “Mom the Chemistry Professor” which includes contributions and was co-edited by some members of WCC, the WCC “Managing Transitions” symposium, the WCC Awards Task Force, and the WCC Non-tenure Track Task (NTT) Task force to support women in non-tenure track faculty positions.
