Concerns over global warming, increasing scarcity of fossil fuels, and the world’s growing energy demand have served as significant motivation to develop alternative means of energy production.  Photovoltaics are an alluring source of green energy.  Interest in organic photovoltaics (OPVs) has slowly increased, despite the market dominance of inorganic devices.  The efficiency of these organic cells has traditionally been lower than their inorganic counterparts but have become comparable in recent years.  Macrocyles bearing redox active units possess the potential to self-asembling into OPV materials. Here we present the electrochemical properties of macrocycles being considered as building block for OPVs. A series of molecular fragments were synthesized and characterized to investigate the consequences of linking increasing numbers of redox active units, as well as the influence of macrocyclization on the redox properties of these molecules.  <br/>
