In the past decades supramolecular chemistry has become a fascinating field of chemical research. The use of pentaphosphaferrocene [Cp*Fe(η5-P5)] and Cu(I) halides as building blocks leads to 1D and 2D polymeric compounds. However, in the presence of an appropriate template the exclusive formation of spherical nano-sized aggregates as host molecules with an encapsulated single template molecule is observed. Compounds of different stability, redox behavior and geometry have been applied as a template, the resulting host-guest systems are comprehensively examined and the results are presented.
