Sn is a promising candidate for high energy Li-ion batteries. However, it is still a challenge to put it into real application because of its aggregation and volume expansion. One effective resolution is constructing Sn@carbon composite using carbon nanotube or graphene as the carbon source which has shown improvement in electrochemical performance. But the problem is the detachment of Sn from the carbon nanotube and the aggregation of graphene because of the van der Waals interaction between layers. So it’s important to find one unique carbon framework to encapsulate the Sn nanoparticles. In this work, a general strategy has been designed to construct the Sn@carbon three dimensional porous network. In this first step, the three dimensional carbon frameworks are derived from metal-organic frameworks which process uniform and high porous structure. Then the Sn nanoparticles are doped into the internal pores of carbon frameworks by reduction of NaBH<sub>4</sub>. The whole composite not only reserves high electrochemical conductivity but also suppresses the aggregation and volume variation of Sn nanoparticles. When applied as anode materials, it exhibits high capacity of 740 mAh g<sup>-1</sup> after 200 cycles as well as excellent rate performance, representing promising potential for the high energy Li-ion batteries application.
