Graphene oxide, under the capillary force exerted by rapid water evaporation during aerosolization in a FUAR (furnace aerosol reactor), can crumple and effectively encapsulate one or multi-component nanoparticles, forming effective core-shell nanostructure composites. Magnetic properties of the crumpled GO materials can be engineered by encapsulating magnetic (nanoscale magnetite) particles during material synthesis, allowing for magnetic control. In this presentation, I will describe novel membrane assemblies with GOM (crumpled graphene oxide (CGO)-magnetite nanocomposite), which act as the active layer. Based on the properties of GOM, these membrane assemblies can self-clean and self-assemble under magnetic field manipulation after each time used. Membrane properties (permeability and antimicrobial ability) are described and compared, including four cleaning/reassembly cycles.
