N-Alkenylnitrones and N,O-dialkenylhydroxylamines have been targeted as synthetically versatile modular synthons for the convergent synthesis of complicated organic structures via processes that rapidly increase structural sophistication. The generation of these intermediates from simple starting materials and their conversion to stereodefined heterocyclic motifs and challenging organic fragments through pericyclic reaction manifolds and cascade processes will be discussed.
