PETRONAS Technology Agenda was devised with the main aim to build technology suites that can support PETRONAS’ growth in selected areas through technology differentiations. PETRONAS Technology Agenda focuses on Enhanced Oil Recovery, High CO2 and Contaminants Removal, GeoImaging, Facilities of the Future, Unconventional, Fluid Solutions, and Derivatives & Specialty Chemicals. Relevant innovation governance models, which include selective investments into start-ups, collaborations with universities & industries and in-house developments, are applied based on business and growth requirements. The driving factors for these requirements are mainly lowering-down cost, new market opportunities, Internet 4.0 and astute applications of novel science concept to long-standing operational problems. Recent achievements made based on these effort are Hycapure Hg®, acid gas management using membrane and membrane contactor, enhanced oil recovery and imaging techniques and novel pipeline remediation technology. This paper shall highlights the ‘sine quo non’ of each technology focus areas, its building components and how these initiatives translate into results, positively impacting the businesses. Other emerging areas of interests for PETRONAS such as hydrogen economy, bio-catalysis, unconventional hydrocarbon utilization and electrifications as to its relevance to the industry’s sustainability and nation building efforts will also be shared in this paper.
