Synergistic catalysis is based on two independent catalytic cycles that work in concert to form a new carbon-carbon bond with the concurrent activation of nucleophiles and electrophiles, allowing to find new pathways in asymmetric synthesis.<br/>Pushing the boundaries of synergistic catalysis, we developed a domino reaction for the synthesis of highly substituted cyclopentanes <i>via</i> a ring expansion of vinyl cyclopropanes. This methodology combines four catalytic cycles, breaking one C-C bond and forming 2 new C-C bonds. The products were obtained in high yields and excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities (up to 19:1 dr and 99% ee).<br/>Recently, we discovered the first ring contraction/formal [6+2] cycloaddition merging synergistic Pd(0)/secondary amine catalysis. The reaction takes place between 7-membered ring and enals, leading to [5,5]-spiropyrazolone derivatives in excellent yields and stereoselectivities.
