The ability to control and manipulate the surface structure and atomic arrangement of the active sites of catalysts under catalytic reactions is essential for the design of high-performance catalysts. In this work, composition and size-tunable bimetallic copper-gold alloy nanoparticles are synthesized via a highly-scalable route. The detailed structure and morphology of the nanoparticles depend on the synthetic control parameters. The nanoalloys are examined to assess the catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO), focusing on the understanding of composition sensitive metal-support interactions and structural evolution. Results from in-situ characterizations using techniques such as Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopy and Synchrotron X-ray Diffraction coupled with Pair Distribution Function Analysis will also be discussed, which provide new insights for the catalyst design for applications in clean energy production and emission control reactions.
