Students enrolled in a Chemistry and Society course are required to complete a series of assignments that help them link the chemistry of the classroom to the chemistry outside of the classroom.   The first one is current science and is implemented in the laboratory.  Three students present a two minute summary of an article of their choosing about science during the first portion of the laboratory.  These oral presentations help students realize the broad array of science being reported in news outlets and allow the students an opportunity to reflect on the science and how it is linked to the chemistry course.  The second opportunity is Science Discussions.  Students view readily available on-line presentations or campus events and comment upon the concepts and linkages to the material learned in the chemistry course.  These science discussions are competed as a group to facilitate discussion among students and to decrease grading time.  Only those students present in class are eligible for points. <br/>
