Supramolecular catalysts, inspired by enzymes, refer to multicomponent assemblies that are stabilized by noncovalent interactions to achieve catalytic systems with high selectivity and high catalytic efficiency. The common noncovalent interactions used in the assembling supramolecular catalysts include metal-ligand complexation, hydrogen bonding, cation-anion attraction and ion-dipole interaction. In this project, we designed and synthesized Co(III)-salen complex containing both an aromatic donor unit and an aromatic acceptor unit, which can self-assemble into a dinuclear supramolecular catalyst through aromatic donor-acceptor interaction and catalyze cooperative bimetallic mechanism based hydrolytic kinetic resolution of terminal epoxides and asymmetric ring opening of internal epoxides. The formation of Co(III)-salen supramolecular catalyst was verified by UV-vis titraion and proton NMR titration.
