<br/>As part of the Mobile Merrimack initiative, students at Merrimack College have been provided iPads in the hope of transforming the Merrimack student experience through the integration of technology in teaching and learning. In order to take advantage of this new mobile technology, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry decided to integrate iPads as much as possible into our general chemistry courses. One major component of this departmental initiative was to create an interactive iBook-based laboratory manual. This iBook serves as the primary laboratory manual for the two general chemistry courses and contains the laboratory procedures for all experiments, as well as additional instructional materials such as videos, photos of the laboratory equipment, defined terms, three-dimensional/manipulatable structures, and post-laboratory instructions. The successes and challenges of creating, integrating, and utilizing this new laboratory manual will be discussed.
