Ron Hites has made numerous contributions to the field of environmental chemistry through his pioneering research in the development and application of mass spectrometry to environmental matrices and his keen ability to identify new classes of contaminants that might pose risks to human health or aquatic ecosystems.  For the last three decades, he has managed to make these contributions while simultaneously serving as an associate editor for<i>Environmental Science & Technology</i>.  Rather than distracting Ron from his research, his service as an editor has provided Ron with another outlet for his considerable intellectual energy. Whether it is tracking down a long overdue review, puzzling over suspicious mass spectra or sharing his experiences with the community, Ron Hites epitomizes the scientist/editor. It is even more refreshing that he manages to do all of this with wit, grace and a sense of humor.        <br/>
