Emergency circumstances can require that jet fuel be used in military diesel engines. In this work, the composition of a military jet fuel was analyzed using GC/MS. The composition was used to formulate mixtures of <i>n</i>-paraffins, iso-paraffins, cycloalkanes, and aromatic compounds to represent the fuel.  These mixtures were characterized by density, viscosity, speed of sound, surface tension, flash point, distillation curve, and small volume combustion experiments to determine which ones fall within the military specifications for jet fuel and diesel fuel.  A subset of these mixtures were tested in a military diesel engine.  Many fuel mixtures passed military jet fuels standards.  Some these mixtures had good diesel engine combustion behavior, while others had poor combustion behavior. The results of these experiments will be presented.
