Increasing data storage density is important for bridging the gap between the ever-increasing amount of data generated and the ability to store and manipulate data. While sequenced polymers, DNA and DNA-inspired systems, represent one common approach to molecular data storage, this work takes chemical data storage in a new direction – mixtures. Through control of molecular components and concentrations, a system of encoding information employing mixtures has been created. The data encoded mixtures are read by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, which is enabled by exploiting signature absorbances in the mid-infrared region (2300-1600 cm<sup>-1</sup>) of judiciously selected compounds. Encoding strategies, compound selection, and mixture analysis will be discussed.
