<br/>A non-traditional, upper-level organic chemistry mechanism course requires students to engage in peer instruction and peer review.  In any given session, students are either required to draw, explain, and defend their proposed mechanisms to challenging reactions or to review and assess the proposed mechanisms of their peers.  The peer instruction-review process generates rich discussions on mechanistic steps; here, the students teach and learn from each other.  Students also increase their fluency in organic chemistry language and improve their use of terms and concepts in correct context.
