The primary focus of the research is to investigate modern coordination chemistry, which has vastly expanded over last the few decades particularly in the area of polynuclear metal complexes, often known for their aesthetically pleasing structures, unique supramolecular architectures, and interesting magnetic properties such as single-molecule magnetism (SMM), molecular magnetic refrigeration and so on. To facilitate the formation of such polymetallic structures, alkoxide-based ligands play a crucial role where this functionality acts as a bridging group that fosters higher nuclearity product formation. The choice of paramagnetic metals such as iron, manganese, and copper in their common oxidation states can often lead to interesting magnetic properties in combination with appropriate ligand. The research is currently exploring the uses of the ligand, 4,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)-2-methylpyridin-3-ol (PNH2) with manganese, iron and copper salts. The aforementioned ligand has four binding sites through electronegative O and N atoms (O, O, O, N) which will preferentially bind high oxidation state transition metals. The new complexes will be characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, Infrared and UV-Visible spectroscopies, CHN elemental and Thermal Gravimetric and magnetic analyses.
